Voter's Guide: Shelby Township's Feb. 28 Primary Elections

Find out where to vote Feb. 28 and what you'll need before casting your ballot.

Patch has everything you need to know before you go out and cast your vote in the Feb. 28 primary elections.

Because the primary election will be conducted as a "closed" primary, voters must request a specific party's ballot at the polls. Voters do not have to be registered to a specific party to take part in the primary, but under Public Act 163 of 2011, they must indicate in writing whether they wish to vote a Republican or Democratic ballot. View sample ballots here: Republican Party click here, Democratic Party ballot click here.

Voters will not be required to select a political party ballot in writing for the August primary or November election.

This will be the first election for Shelby Township's new clerk, Stan Grot.

Michigan voters are required to show photo ID, either a driver's license or state issued ID, at the polls. If you forget, or do not have an acceptable form of ID, you can still vote, but must sign a brief affidavit stating that you're not in possession of a photo ID.

Absentee Ballots

Grot told Patch 5,155 absentee ballots were sent out for the primary elections, and as of Wednesday morning, 3,973 has been returned. The last day to pick up an absentee ballot is Feb. 27, until 4 p.m. at the Shelby Township Municipal Hall. However, all ballots returned before 8 p.m. Feb. 28 will be counted.
