Shelby Approves Meijer's Plan to Add Gas Station At Hall Road Location

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved Meijer's plan to build a gas station in the parking lot of the Hall Road and Hayes location.

Meijer shoppers at Hall Road and Hayes will soon be able to fill their gas tanks after loading their shopping carts with food.

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved a special land use request by Meijer to allow the Michigan-based grocery store chain to add a fueling station and convenience store in the parking lot of the exiting Hall Road site.

The board agreed to grant Meijer the permits needed to begin construction on the new fueling station on the basis that the new building will be consistent with the predominately retail development pattern along Hall Road; there are no abutting residents that would be impacted; there is sufficient land at the site to accommodate the influx of traffic; and the site plan provides safe and convenient access to Hall Road.

In addition to a new building, fueling pumps and canopy, Meijer has agreed to make improvements to the existing driveway and install a traffic light at the crossover.

Just last month, the to build a gas station inside it’s parking lot on 25 Mile and Dequindre roads, citing the plan lacked appropriate landscaping and building design elements that were compatible with residential neighborhoods proximate to this site; possible traffic concerns and inadequacy of public access of this site.
