Candice Miller Named Vice Chair of House Committee on Homeland Security

Michigan's 10th congressional representative has also been appointed chairman of the Committee on House Administration, making her the only female committee chair currently in the House of Representatives.

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller is slated to assume even greater leadership in the area of national security with her recent appointement to vice chair of the full House Committee on Homeland Security.

“I have proudly served on the House Committee on Homeland Security for the past five years because I believe that the federal government’s first and foremost responsibility is to provide for our national defense, and our common defense begins with a secure homeland," Miller wrote in a statement. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee as we continue the important work of overseeing the Department charged with protecting the American people.

Miller, a Republican serving Michigan's 10th congressional district, will also continue her role as chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, a position she has held since January 2011.

“As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, I will continue my oversight and legislative efforts to ensure our nation’s borders are adequately secured against illegal immigration, drug and human smuggling, as well as the exploitation of the legitimate visa process," Miller said, adding that she will "continue to push needed legislation that will ensure we implement strong protections to our borders and global supply chain."

Serving on the House Committee on Homeland Security since 2008, Miller said she is well aware of the "serious security challenges our nation faces," and as vice chair, will work to "confront the threats of terrorism, cyber security, and mismanagement of the Department of Homeland Security."

"I look forward to continuing our work towards a secure border and a safer homeland," she added.
