20 People Vye to Make Up Shelby Township Board of Trustees

Twenty candidates for the Shelby Township Board of Trustees have been certified to appear on the Aug. 7 Primary Elections ballot.

Let the races begin.

Twenty Shelby Township residents are vying for the seven spots that make up the Shelby Township Board of Trustees.

Shelby Township Clerk Stanley Grot has verified all candidates nominating petitions, which were due by May 15, and the following petitions have been approved by the Macomb County Elections Department and will appear on the Aug. 7 Primary Elections Ballot.

The race for supervisor will be between familiar faces.  First-term Supervisor Rick Stathakis is running against

Current Trustees Lisa Manzella and Michael Flynn are both vying for treasurer, which is currently held by Paul Viar, who is running as a trustee.

Grot, the current Clerk, is up against Richard Batchedler, who was a Shelby paramedic and has held volunteer positions in the city including Chairman of the Shelby Sidewalk Committee.

During the Aug. 7 Primary, Shelby Township residents will have to choose four republicans and one democrat to advance to the general elections.

Also on the Aug. 7 Primary Ballot, residents be asked to vote for State Representatives, Senators, Macomb County-wide positions, including the Commissioners, Sheriff and Probate Court judges.

"I think the turnout will be very good this year because everyone is working hard to get their voters out," said Grot.
