Ceremonies in Shelby Township Remember 9/11

Shepherd's Gate Lutheran Church, the Shelby Township Fire Department and the Shelby Township Veterans Committee will hold ceremonies to mark the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.

Residents, public safety officers and churches in Shelby Township will remember the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 with events on Sunday.

  • will honor those killed on Sept. 11 with a special 9/11 Sunday Mass. Military service members are invited to attend. Times are at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. The church is located at 12400 23 Mile Road.
  • The will hold a ceremony on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. to remember the firefighters who were killed on 9/11. The department will display and display the names of those killed in the terrorist attacks.
  • The Shelby Township Veterans Committee will remember the tragedy with a “Stop and Remember” ceremony on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Center at the . The committee is asking for fire alarms, sirens and church bells to sound at 1 p.m. in remembrance. The ceremony also will honor the three Shelby Township residents who were killed in war since Sept. 11.
  • Personal sentiments can be written on special “9/11 Michigan Remembers” tribute banners that will be on display at seven Metroparks, including Stony Creek, leading up to September 11. The banner will be on display at Stony Creek September 10 and 11.
