Flags Lowered Today; Funeral Services For Fallen Soldier Held in Shelby

Flags ordered lowered Wednesday in honor of fallen soldier 1st Lt. Todd Lambka, an Eisenhower graduate.

Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered all U.S. flags to be lowered Wednesday, Aug. 15, in honor of Shelby Township-native 1st Lt. Todd Lambka's death.

Lambka, a 2006 graduate, died Aug. 1 from injuries sustained by an improvised explosive device in Paktikap province, Afghanistan. He was 25. Pvt. 1st Class Jesus Lopez, 22, of San Bernardino, Calif., also was killed, the military said.

Lambka, who lived in Fraser, graduated in 2010 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 28th Infantry Regiment in the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kan., according to the Military Times.

Lambka was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart posthumously, according to Western Michigan University. His other awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge. He also received posthumously the Basic NATO Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.

Services

Visitation for Lambka are at the Wasik Funeral Home in Shelby Township Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
