7:00 p.m. Meeting called to order by Supervisor Richard Stathakis. After the invocation and pledge of allegiance, he announced that the township will have 2012 budget meetings on Aug. 23 and Aug. 25. The public is invited.

7:04 p.m. Stathakis said he will spend a portion of the next few meetings with an overview of the budget.

7:18 p.m. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel update on . The decision would affect about 100 places of residences in Shelby Township.

“This is a very concerning issue for many of the members of the community,” Hackel said.

He said he wants to “be part of the solution, not the problem.”

7:21 p.m. Hackel asked the ITC, even though it is not within his jurisdiction as the Macomb County Executive, to proceed with caution when cutting the vegetation near the wires.

7:22 p.m. Joe Youngblood, the Shelby Township representative on the Macomb Orchard Trail Commission, said he is pleading with the ITC to save a buffer for the residents.

7:24 p.m. The $500,000 the ITC will provide for re-vegetation along the trail will only go to the Macomb Orchard Trail Commission, not any of the municipalities.

7:25 p.m. Right now, ITC has closed the trail from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Youngblood said ITC will be in Shelby Township for 2-3 more weeks.

8:07 p.m. Board approves the human resources director’s request to adopt the 41A District Court judge supplemental agreement.

8:17 p.m. Board unanimously adopts the 41A District Court non-union management employee contract.

8:31 p.m. Board unanimously approves DPW sanitary sewer repairs and water main capital improvement projects. The cost of the project is $1.3 million, which comes from the reserves, according to Stathakis.

8:37 p.m. Board unanimously agrees to prepay the township’s portion of the Oakland-Macomb Interceptor Drainage District board issue. The township will pay just more than $1.9 million, which is taken from water and sewer department reserve fund. By paying in advance, the township will save on interest fees.

8:46 p.m. Trustee Paul Viar speaks out against high cost of pensions.

8:59 p.m. Resident gave a DVD to the board. She expressed her displeasure with an . She wants a resolution against smart meters.

9:08 p.m. Other public comments: one resident talks about a recall, another asks the board for more civility and another resident talks about smart meters.

9:42 p.m. Board moves to closed session to discuss litigation.
