Macomb County Voters Reject Special Education Enhancement Millage

The majority of voters in Shelby Township and Utica also rejected the proposal.

It came down to only a few thousand votes, but the was ultimately rejected in Macomb County Tuesday night.

Both Shelby Township and Utica voters rejected the proposal, joining neighboring such as Chesterfield and Clinton in failing the 1.2-mill property tax proposal in the county as a whole.

  • Shelby Township: 4,629 Yes-6,375 No
  • Utica: 338 Yes-360 No

Had the proposal been passed, its proceeds would have funded special education programs in Macomb County's 21 school districts and the Macomb Intermediate School District through 2030.

Voter turnout was only slightly lower in Shelby than Utica, with 22.1 percent of voters casting ballots in Utica and 21.1 percent in Shelby.
