Planning to Vote in the August Primary? Today is Final Day to Register

Michigan residents planning to cast ballots in the Aug. 7 primary must be registered to vote by July 9.

Today is the last day for Michigan residents to register to vote in the Aug. 7 primary.

Shelby Township and Utica residents who are U.S. citizens and at least 18 years old by election day can register at the Clerk's office at the Shelby Township Municipal Hall, , a Secretary of State branch office, or at the Macomb County Clerk's office.

Voter applications are available at the offices listed above as well as online at www.Michigan.gov/sos.

  • If you hand-deliver your application, the staff person helping will take your form and you don't need to do anything else.
  • If you have never registered to vote in Michigan and choose to mail in your application, you will need to meet an identification requirement, meaning you must enter your driver's license number or personal ID card number where requested on the form or send a photocopy with your app of your driver's license, personal ID, paycheck stub, utility bill, bank document or government document that lists both your name and your address.

Voter registration records may be verified by contacting the Shelby Clerk Stan Grot at 586-731-5102, Utica City Clerk Cathy McGrail at 586-739-1600 or the County Election division at 586-469-5209.

Due to the election, the regular Shelby Township Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for August 7 was cancelled.  The next regular Board meeting will be held on August 21.

Also, due to elections, Shelby Township will not be processing passport applications from July 5 through August 10.  Regular processing will resume on  August 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Looking ahead: Oct. 9 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 general election.
