Although Romney wasn't the preferred nominee of some at the Republican Committee of Northern Macomb County's watch party at in Shelby Township, Philis DeSaele, chair of the Sterling Heights-Utica Republicans, summed up her party's feelings saying, "It doesn't matter. We are supporting Republican candidates. Anyone is better than (President Barack) Obama."

Shelby Township resident Dean Michaelis, who moved to Michigan from California, argued that Romney was the only GOP candidate strong enough to beat Obama during the November Presidential elections.

Michaelis said his main concern is that the next president gets government spending under control.

“It’s basic economics. You have to spend less than you make. We should never be in debt as the richest country in the world. First we have to take care of the debt and then we can take care of everything else,” he said.
