Election Results: Santorum Wins Utica; Romney Takes Shelby Township

GOP candidate Rick Santorum wins Utica by a few votes, while Mitt Romney has won the hearts of Shelby Township voters.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Rick Santorum has won over the hearts of Utica Republican voters, by four votes, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won Shelby Township during the primary election by seveal hundred votes.

It was a victorious night for Romney as he was declared the winner of both Michigan and Arizona primary elections.

Romney performed well in southeastern Michigan, particularly in Macomb and Oakland counties. Romney won with 37,838 votes or 43.3% while Rick Santorum slid in second with 30,218 votes or 34.6%, according to Macomb County Election Department results Tuesday night.

Although Romney wasn't the preferred nominee of some at the Republican Committee of Northern Macomb County's watch party at in Shelby Township, Philis DeSaele, chair of the Sterling Heights-Utica Republicans, summed up her party's feelings saying, "It doesn't matter. We are supporting Republican candidates. Anyone is better than (President Barack) Obama."

Shelby Township resident Dean Michaelis, who moved to Michigan from California, argued that Romney was the only GOP candidate strong enough to beat Obama during the November Presidential elections.

Michaelis said his main concern is that the next president gets government spending under control.

β€œIt’s basic economics. You have to spend less than you make. We should never be in debt as the richest country in the world. First we have to take care of the debt and then we can take care of everything else,” he said.

Do these Romney backers know his buddies took thousands of jobs out of the country? This family was effected by it. I know the people that backed him in 2008. Since then those companies have sent jobs out of here.
