American Legion Post 351 presented Shelby Township’s Interim Police Captain and Fire Chief an American flag bearing the names of the first responders who lost their lives on 9/11.

A representative from the Shelby Township Firefighters Union presented a check in the amount of $4,500 to the Children’s Hospital for cardiovascular research.

The funds were raised during the fire department’s annual charity golf outing on Sept. 30.

Azteca Mexican Restaurant Gets Liquor License

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees agreed to transfer a liquor license and dance permit from VSmith, Inc. of Harrison Township to Azteca’s Mexican Restaurant Inc. on Mound Road.

The Shelby Township Police department completed an inspection of the Mexican restaraunt and gave the township its approval to move forward with the liquor license request.

U.S. Farathane Presents Expansion Plans

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved Tuesday evening a modification to a consent judgment that will allow U.S. Farathane to continue with its expansion plans.

The industrial building is located in Park Court, next to the Lombardo Park. The plastic supplier said the expansion is needed to accommodate an anticipated increase in production in 2012.

U.S. Farathane has been in the same location for 20 years. However, the expansion will help the company retain 213 local jobs and create 124 long-term jobs and hundreds of short-term jobs during the construction phase.

Development of the site will requite acquisition of land by the Shelby West Mobile Home Park and a portion of a parcel abutting the subject property to the east. U.S. Farathane has entered into a purchase agreement with both parties involved.

Company Wins Bid for Shelby Manor Fire Suppression System Upgrades

DiHydro Services Inc. will perform the necessary safety tests for Shelby Manor Buildings A, B and C for $15,405.

The fire suppression system hasn’t been checked in 20 years.

Township Will Get New Salt Spreader

Of six bids placed, Canfield Equipment Services Inc. was the lowest bidder at $5,969 to replace a salt spreader for the Township’s Department of Works trucks.

The Township will be replacing a 10-year-old salt spreader with a Fisher Dual Motor Poly-Hopper Spreader.

Company Wins New Police Station Fiber Optic Bid

Gemellaro Systems Integration will install all the fiber optics and data cabling for the new police station building.

GSI was the lowest bidder at $30,180.

Vacant Position on DDA Board Filled

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to appoint Eugene D’Agostini to fill a vacant seat of the Downtown Development Board.

Supervisor Rick Stathakis told the board he interviewed all but one of the 30 candndiates who applied for the position and choose D’Agostini as the best possible member.

D’Agostini term as a DDA member will begin Dec. 2011 and end Dec. 2013.
