Shelby Co. Granted Tax Abatements; Township to Make New Hires

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved a five-year application for industrial facilities tax abatement for .

In return, the Shelby Township-based company said it plans on spending an additional $2.5 million on personal property such as new furniture, machinery and equipment.

The company, which is made up of about 30 employees, said it plans to make 20 new hires in the next few years.

“The company—in this difficult time—has been able to maintain auto contracts and new contracts,” said Justin Robinson Sr., economic development specialist with Macomb County.

The tooling, design and development company is currently located on 51476 Filomena Drive off 23 Mile Road, and plans to move into a new building next door on 51345 Filomena Drive.

Plante Moran To Do 2011 Audit

The Board of Trustees agreed to hire Plante Moran to conduct the Township’s 2011 audit.

Plante Moran won the Township’s business in 2009, and has agreed to conduct the audit for $54,000, which is the same price it has charged the township since obtaining the contract.

The Board agreed to not bid out the 2011 audit as long as the price remains the same.

Shelby Township Cement Company Wins Parks and Recreation Bid

Florence Cement Company was the lowest bidder at $36,730 for the Campus Asphalt Overlay project for the new Shelby Township police department.

Human Resource Director to Begin Recruiting for Full Time Position

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees agreed to allow Human Resources Director Lisa Suida begin the recruitment process to hire a full time administration assistant.

Suida said the assistant will help the department with the newly tasked duties of fulfilling Freedom of Information Act requests.

The new employee would be eligible for a salary of between $44,995 and $56,825.

Department of Public Works Looking for New Meter Reader

The Board agreed to begin the recruiting process for a new Department of Public Works meter reader.

The vacancy was created after the previous meter reader resigned in August. The salary budgeted for a new meter reader would save the township money, according to Department of Public Works Director Ted Schoenherr.

Bid Accepted for Drain Repair in Section 18

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees agreed to hire Shelby Underground to work on maintenance and repair of an underground dam on Waterview Drive.

Shelby Underground submitted the lowest bid of $45,050. Schoenherr said he has applied for a $25,000 emergency drain fund grant with the Macomb County Public Works to help ease the Township’s cost, but he has not yet heard back.
