Some highlights from last night's Shelby Township Board of Trustees meeting include a new ambulance and a request to clear trees for a Muslim cemetery.

Board Agrees to Two-year Assessor Service Contract

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees will contract with Assessment Administration Services LLC for two years at a cost of $35,000 per year.

The company will assign an assessment officer to supervise the assessment roll of the township; assure compliance with the state and tax commission and to be on-site at the township every Friday for a minimum of 42 days per year.

The contract will be from Sept. 15, 2011 to Sept. 15, 2013

Briarwood Condominiums Rezoned

The Board of Trustees has approved builder Michele LoChirco’s request to modify the Briarwood Condominiums complex and build 55 single-family homes in the condominium complex. 

The condominiums are located north of 25 Mile Road, east of Dequindre Road.

American and Import Auto Parts Receives Rezone Request

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees have agreed to rezone American and Import Auto Parts, located on Ryan Road, north of Auburn Road, from light manufacturing to heavy manufacturing.

Trees to Be Cleared For Muslim Cemetery

The Adam Community Center has requested tree clearing at 3050 Utica Road with the interest of building a Muslim Cemetery at the site.

Adam Community Center officials told the Shelby Planning Department that eventually it plans on building a faith-based community center in Shelby Township.

Board Approves S.M.A.R.T. Credits 

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees Approved the Parks and Recreation Department’s request to allow the transfer of more than $195,000 in municipal credits to S.M.A.R.T.

Fire Department to Get New Ambulance

The Shelby Fire Department was given the OK to purchase a new medium-sized ambulance for $173,504.

The Fire department will also purchase a fire hose tester for $3,870.

Township Agrees to Join Clinton River Watershed

At the request of Department of Public Works Director Ted Schoenherr, the city has agreed to join the Clinton River Water Shed Council for two years, at the cost of $5,000 per year.
