Shelby Township to Upgrade Video Recording System

Shelby Township will make it easier for folks at home to watch the Board of Trustees meeting on TV and online.

With more than $50,000 in new video recording equipment, comments made during the Shelby Township Board meeting should no longer sound fuzzy or garbled for residents watching at home.

The township has agreed to shell out $54,155 to purchase all new video recording equipment. The purchase includes four new cameras, a camera control unit and a tricaster switcher.

Six bids were received but Advanced Lighting and Sound was the lowest bidder.

Shelby has not invested in new equipment since 1993.

All Shelby Township Board of Trustee meetings are broadcast on cable TV in Shelby Township and the City of Utica. For a listing of channels and program scheduling, visit www.shelbytv.org.  All Board meetings can also be viewed online at www.Shelbytwp.org.

Another 54k from the bottomless pit because of a couple of distortions once in a while? APPROVED

It's cable franchise fees that are used to cover this (no tax dollars). I would rather see the money used for this instead of another cable access cooking show. The camera's in the boardroom improve transparency, the recordings, a history of decisions and behavior. The internet access allows citizens to see what Shelby Township is up to from around the world. I felt the distortions could have been used as an excuse to stop the broadcast. I am very happy to see it was used as an excuse to improve the broadcast and thus, transparency.

Will the new video equiptment make the crooks on the board look less crooked?

If this new equipment helps residents keep a closer 'ear' on what Nick Nightingale says and does while concurrently suing the Township and being a decision-maker on the Board, then I am all for the expense. The good people of Shelby voted to put a squirrely little fox in the henhouse and now we need to watch his every step.

With all of this new equipment will Mr Stathakis still sound like he is saying that there was a huge deficit in the 2012 budget even though he told everyone how he had saved 4.3 million? Now the truth comes out and Mr Stathakis stands before Shelby Township, God and everyone else and lies through his teeth about his numbers game that has gone bad now that he is ensconced in office for another four years. He now paints a very bleak picture for the future as well. This isn’t the same voice that was out there in November touting the prosperity that he the king had brought to Shelby Township. This is now the voice of a bold faced liar. God help the residents of Shelby Township. They’re going to need it with this kind of leadership. Then we have Mr Flynn who had always wanted to “play” treasurer. He’s a whole different kind of joke. He’s a marionette whose strings and sounds are controlled by Mr Viar. How sad.
