Shelby Veterans Memorial Receives Donation, Plans Improvments

Sunoco donated $25,000 for improvements and enhancements to the Shelby Township Veterans Memorial.

The Shelby Township Veterans Memorial will receive some new enhancements through the donations of individuals, organizations and businesses including Sunoco.

The oil company made the presentation of a $25,000 check to the township Tuesday during the Township Board meeting.

"It is a great project and a great thing to be a part of," Sunoco Manager Public Affairs Joseph McGinn said during the meeting.

The memorial, which honors those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in America's wars dating back to World War I, will receive improvements including new brick pavers and a water feature.

"This area is hallowed ground," said Shelby Township Veterans Events Coordinator Phil Randazzo.

Residents can purchase pavers that will be included in the project, Randazzo added. Forms to purchase the pavers can be obtained from the supervisor's office at the township office.

According to Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis, the donation will, "Insure that our Veterans Memorial is a fitting tribute to our community's greatest heroes."
