Sunoco recently made a $50,000 donation to Shelby Township. The money will be split between the Veterans Memorial and the new Shepherd Park.

Two local Shelby Township parks will split a $50,000 donation from Sunoco, which is currently in the process of a pipeline replacement project through Shelby Township, Rochester and Rochester Hills.

The announcement of a $25,000 donation to the Shelby Township Veterans Memorial, and a $25,000 donation to the new Shepherd Park, was made during a community meeting Sunoco recently held in Shelby Township.

"We try to support communities where we operate," Sunoco Manager Public Affairs Joseph McGinn said during the meeting.

According to a story in the Shelby-Utica News, the donation for Shepherd Park will be used pay for a third firefighter-themed playscape. The Veterans Memorial donation will be used to improve the brick paver area at the memorial and possibly add a water feature, the article stated.
