Surprise: Dequindre Road Will Be Resurfaced This Year

The project, originally planned for 2013, will fix the road between South Boulevard and Auburn Road.

Some "surprise" funding will provide a much-needed new surface to a well-traveled  city road.

On Monday night, Rochester Hills officials announced the planned resurfacing of Dequindre Road between South Boulevard and Auburn Road, which will likely begin in late August or early September.

As part of the city's master plan, Dequindre Road will be reconstructed and widened in 2018; in the meantime, a resurfacing had been planned for 2013. A change in regional road funding availability allowed the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) to move the project to this year.

The project will cost $1.6 million; that cost will be shared by the RCOC, the city of Rochester Hills, Shelby Township, Troy and the Macomb County Department of Roads.

The cost to Shelby Township is 41,850.00.

"This was a surprise," said Mayor Bryan Barnett. "There were some other projects that were moved around, and we are very grateful and thankful for that."
