Board Approves Special Land Permit that Will Allow Company to Expand Recycling Operation

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved a special land use application that allows Fritz Enterprise, a Trenton-based steel mill and recycling company, to expand its recycling operation at 22 Mile Road between Ryan and Shelby roads, to include vehicles.  

Fritz Enterprise will now be allowed to recycle ferrous and non-ferrous metals and vehicles. Up to 36 vehicles may be allowed on the 3.3 acres of land owned by Fritz Enterprises, but the Board of Trustees has said the vehicle’s metal cannot be processed there.

The Planning Commission held a public meeting on July 11 to discuss changing the land permit, and it was decided based on several criteria, including the fact that there are no immediate residential buildings nearby that will be affected by the site, and that the company complies with all federal and local standards, that the permit be approved.

The board voted and passed the motion Tuesday evening.

Fire Department to Replace Portable Radio Lost at Scene

The will get a new $3,292 portable Motorola radio.

Chief Gene Shepherd said the department’s previous radio was lost at a fire scene.

The board Tuesday approved the funds to replace the radio.

Eligibility for Several City Positions Approved

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved Human Resource Director Lisa Suida’s request to establish eligibility lists for the positions of Account Processor I, Account Processor II and Account Processor III.
