Assessment Notices Coming in March

Property value assessment notices will be mailed to residents and businesses by March 1. 

Board review meeting dates will be Wednesday, March 16, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m., and Thursday, March 17, 1-4 p.m. and  6-9 p.m.

Nancy Strehl, the city’s assessor, said residential properties can expect to see “about  a 1.22 percent reduction.”  But, she added that taxable value is mandated by law, “so taxable value can rise, even though the assessments may go down.”

Poverty exemptions applications for hardships are available upon request.

Keep Fire Hydrants Visible

In view of the heavy snowfalls, Fire Chief Kevin Wilseck has asked residents with a fire hydrant near their property to keep it visible by not letting snow pile up around it.

Increase in City’s Insufficient Funds Charge

The council approved an increase in the insufficient funds charge for checks returned to the city. There will now be a $35 charge for NSF checks. 

Library Book Sale Coming in March

The Utica Public Library will be holding a “really big” book sale on Saturday, March 19, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday, March 20, 1-3 p.m.  Sunday will be “Bag Day” when $5 buys a grocery bag full of books.  Donations are still being accepted.  The library is located at 7530 Auburn Road.
