Van Dyke And Hayes Road Projects Planned

Construction projects are planned on Van Dyke and Hayes roads in Shelby Township.

The Macomb County Department of Roads has two major projects planned for Shelby Township.

Hayes Road is scheduled to be widened from north of 21 Mile to 23 Mile. The $3.2 million project includes a $800,000 share from Shelby Township.

Bob Hoepfner, Director of the Macomb County Department of Roads, said the Federal Highway Administration is requiring an environmental assessment for the project. He said he hopes to get approval within a month to proceed with the project, with most of the work to be done in 2014.

Also, a widening of Van Dyke from 25 Mile to 26 Mile is planned. This $1,137,340 project is being split between Shelby Township and the Macomb County Department of Roads.

This project is currently designed and the county is in the process of purchasing rights-of-way along Van Dyke. Hoepfner added that he hopes to start construction of storm sewers late this fall, and begin paving in 2014.
