Voter's Guide: Utica's Feb. 28 Primary Elections

Find out where to vote in Utica, and what you'll need before casting your ballot.

In just a few days, Utica voters will have an opportunity to cast their ballots in the Michigan presidential primary.

Because the primary will be conducted as a "closed" primary, voters must request a specific party's ballot at the polls. Voters do not have to be registered to a specific party to take part in the primary, but under Public Act 163 of 2011, they must indicate in writing whether they wish to vote a Republican or Democratic ballot.

Voters will not be required to select a political party ballot in writing for the August primary or November election.

Michigan voters are required to show photo ID, either a driver's license or state issued ID, at the polls. If you forget, or do not have an acceptable form of ID, you can still vote, but must sign a brief affidavit stating that you're not in possession of a photo ID.

Absentee Ballots

Of Utica's 3,402 registered voters, only 245 absentee ballots were mailed out. As of Wednesday, about half of the ballots had been returned. If you're curious, track your absentee ballot online.

Ballots are being collected until Feb. 28, but can not be picked up after Monday at the Clerk's office.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 28.
