Baker Shoots Season Best 35

Utica High School sophomore shoots 35 at Sycamore Hills to help team defeat Dakota by one stroke.

golfer Zach Baker put the icing on league play with a personal-best, nine-hole round of 35.

In his first year on the varsity golf team, the Utica sophomore had a fantastic round at Sycamore Hills on May 19. Baker's hot shots helped the Chieftains defeat Macomb Area Conference White Division opponent Dakota by just one stroke, 157-158.

"Not only was 35 Zach's personal best for the year, but the Dakota coaches told me it was the lowest score any prep golfer had shot at Sycamore that they could remember, ever," Utica golf coach Bob Morin said.

Baker was the low golfer for the Chieftains this year, averaging 41.0.

"Zach sets high expectations for himself and works hard to continue to meet those expectations," said Morin. "His carefree demeanor around the other players keeps the anxiety level down, which results in a more cohesive team. He has been enjoyable to coach and I expect great things from him in the future."
