Clinton River in Shelby Township and Utica to Become a Classroom

The Clinton River in Shelby Township and Utica will become a living classroom this spring through the Clinton River Watershed Council's Stream Leaders program.

The Clinton River will become a living classroom this spring for nearly 2,000 students this spring through the Clinton River Watershed Council's Stream Leaders program.

Elementary, middle and high school students who participate in the program this spring partner with mentors from local businesses and volunteers from the council to participate in a hands-on lab experience where they test physical, chemical, and biological parameters of the watershed.

According to a release from Michele Arquette-Palermo, the program is "part of an on-going partnership between schools, local businesses and civic groups to get kids connected with science in their communities."

The monitoring locations in Shelby Township and Utica are among areas students, teachers and monitors will test the water in Macomb and Oakland counties.
