"Plants with Purpose" Gardening Series

Think Spring!  With Gardening Series at Nature Center

February 8, 2012 - It’s not too soon to start thinking about those warm days ahead when you can get outdoors and into your garden.  A series of gardening workshops to help you plan for spring are being offered at the Shadbush Nature Center.  Dianne Granthen, Advanced Master Gardener and Project Leader of the Shadbush Teaching Gardens will show you how you can create and maintain a garden your neighbors will be envious of.

The first workshop “Deer Resistant Gardening” held on February 29 will focus on choosing and maintaining the types of plants that are less palatable to deer.  Plant care to make sure your garden will flourish will also be discussed.

On March 7 Mrs. Granthen will discuss “Gardening with Native Plants” to assist you in planning and choosing some terrific varieties for the landscaping features in and around your garden.  Plant care and maintenance will also be discussed.

The March 21 workshop “gardening for Butterflies and Pollinators” will help you design your garden to be a healthy ecosystem for butterflies and other invertebrates throughout their life cycle by using a diverse range of plants.
