Students Take 'Rachel's Challenge'

Utica Community Schools has a mission: To reach its schools and community with the message of kindness and compassion.

From the tragic events of Columbine High School in 1999 has come a powerful message of how one student can change the world. Rachel Scott was the first student shot and killed that day but her life left a legacy of care and concern for her peers.

From that we learned students have the power to make permanent, positive, cultural change, by accepting the challenge of Rachel Scott.

As a result, Eisenhower High School and Malow Junior High are ready to accept Rachel’s Challenge through a nationwide assembly type program.

The goal is to reach the hearts of the entire student body in a 1-hour multimedia assembly. Among things shared: True stories from people who were impacted by her acts of kindness. Students are then encouraged to form Friends of Rachel (FOR) clubs to activate their kindness throughout their schools and community.
