Giacona a Mean, Clean Defender for Ike Lacrosse

Eisenhower junior defender shuts down opponents and creates chances for lacrosse team.

Tony Giacona is mean, clean, defender of the goal.

The Ike junior lacrosse player has been a menace to attacking opponents all season long.

"As a defensive player that needs to be aggressive at all times on the field, he only had three minutes of penalties in 18 games," Eisenhower assistant coach Brian Rice said. "That speaks to his knowledge of the game and overall desire to not go to the penalty box to put his team down a man."

The Eisenhower junior is a long stick midfielder and has had more than 100 ground balls this season, which is a key stat in lacrosse as it gives his team possession.

"Tony is a tenacious defender and stand out player for us," said Rice. "His job is to shut down the opposing teams' biggest threats which he did game-in and game-out this season."

All of this is no surprise, as Giacona comes from a family that lives for lacrosse as he has three older brothers that have all played.

"Tony is kid with remarkable character and wit," said Rice. "He is always the first player dressed and ready for practice. He's played better and better as the season went on and his leadership was shining through. He will be looked upon to carry our team next year to the next level."
