The halls of are alive with the sound of spirit this week as the school gears up for homecoming.
The homecoming dance will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the school’s gymnasium.
But before then, the school will kick off the official homecoming celebration Friday with its annual parade through downtown Utica.
The parade will start at 4 p.m. at the Utica Police station and make its way down Auburn Road, through downtown Utica, turn left onto Cass Avenue and back to the high school.
The hourlong parade will include all the usual suspects: a float from each grade, the football team, the band, cheer squad, dance team and homecoming court.
Also marching in the parade this year will be the band and Girls and Boys Scouts from each of the high school’s feeder junior high school and elementary schools.
The parade will have all the athletes and students fired up for the big homecoming game a few hours later at Swineheart Field. The Utica Chieftains will take on the L’Anse Creuse North Crusaders at 7 p.m.
After the game, the homecoming king and queen will be announced.
Stay tuned to Patch as Utica High School students will be guest blogging on Patch and uploading their photos of the game.
Utica High School Gets European Facelift
The Student Council decided earlier this year to have a European Dream theme for this year’s homecoming dance.
“We try to make it look like this isn’t Utica High School anymore,” said Utica High School Newspaper Editor and Student Council member Lindsey Spagnuolo.
More than 50 students are helping the student council build the European Dream theme, complete with an Eiffel Tower replica, an Arc Di Triomphe and a light-up cardboard cityscape. The students have been building the sets after school and on Friday, Spagnuolo said the students will be in the gymnasium until 2 a.m. putting the finishing touches on the decorations.
Tickets to the dance are being sold at the school for $20.
Utica High School Student Council adviser and teacher Kim Hodsdon said she expect more than 1,000 students to attend the dance.
