Shelby Chiropractor Doles Out Free Adjustments In Exchange for School Supplies

McKernan Chiropractic in Shelby Township will be offering free adjustments in exchange for participation in a school supplies drive Aug. 20.

While getting a free adjustment at McKernan Chiropractic in Shelby Township, you can also get a lesson on how to choose the best backpack for your child’s back this year.

During the Aug. 20 school supply drive, Chiropractor Chad McKernan is asking patients for a donation of five school supplies and $5 to go toward foster shelter Big Family of Michigan.  New patients will receive a free adjustment with a $25 donation and 10 school supplies. Accepted items include notebooks, paper, pencils, crayons, erasers and rulers.

“Our wellness care team is passionate about giving back to our community,” said McKernan. “This is a great opportunity to help a great organization while also saying thanks to our patients for their dedicated support.”

The school supply drive is part of the practice’s commitment to healthy spine care, according to a news release. McKernan will also be informing parents on how to pick the best backpack for your children this year to reduce the risk of back problems.

“In our pediatric care practice, I frequently see children struggling with chronic back pain due to overloaded backpacks,” said McKernan, who also practices pediatric care.

Heavily weighted backpacks can distort the back’s natural curve, which causes muscle strain and irritates the joints.  They can also strain the cervical spine and cause headache, arm and neck pain.
