UCS offers limited schools of choice spots for 2011-12

Applications will be accepted Aug. 22-Sept. 8 for limited schools of choice openings in the Utica Community Schools district in Macomb County.

Utica Community Schools, Michigan’s second largest school district, is offering limited school of choice openings for the upcoming 2011-12 school year.

The schools in the Utica district continue to be top performers on standardized tests and are honored at both state and national levels.  According to Tim McAvoy, a UCS representative, the schools of choice program allows parents that live outside the district’s boundaries to take advantage of Utica Community Schools’ award-winning programs and services.

This program is offered for kindergarten through grade 12 and is available only for Macomb residents or residents who live in communities in bordering counties that are serviced by the Macomb Intermediate School District.

Since the district started participating in the schools of choice program seven years ago, it has gained about 1,000 students, according to Chuck O’Conner, UCS executive director of pupil services.

Check out the UCS website to learn more about the program or to find an application. Applications will be accepted Aug. 22-Sept. 8.
