Utica Schools Honored for Financial Reporting

Utica Community Schools recently was honored for its financial reporting system.

Utica Community Schools recently announced that the district had received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) for its comprehensive annual fiscal reporting system. 

“The Board of Education and leadership remain committed to high standards in the district’s financial audits,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said, in a release. “The integrity of our fiscal reporting practices has a positive impact on the investment we make in our students’ future.”

UCS received the Certificate of Excellence certificate for the 2011-2012 fiscal audit. This recognition recognizes the overall financial reporting system, and can also help strengthen a district’s presentation for bond issuance statements, the district stated in a release.

The district also has qualified for nearly $1.5 million in funding for meeting seven legislative guidelines for best practices including serving as policy holder for medical benefit plans; obtaining a competitive bid for a non-instructional service; participating in a Schools of Choice program; updating the district’s technology plan to address on-line assessments set for 2014-2015; providing opportunities for secondary students to receive postsecondary credit; offering online instructional or blended learning programs; and placing a link to the MiSchoolData portal on the district Web site.
