Trail Less Traveked Walk/Run Today

The UEA Staywell Committee sponsors its fifth annual 4K walk and run to raise funds for wellness programs in Utica Community Schools.

The Utica Education Association Staywell Committee is looking to blaze a fitness trail with their fifth annual “Trail Less Traveled” walk and run on September 25.

By following this trail, the committee hopes to raise funds for Utica community schools wellness programs as all proceeds support grants for creating such programs to benefit district employees and students.

The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness recognizes this walk/run as a quality physical activity event because of its efforts to significantly contribute to the health and well-being of Michigan residents.

"We want to provide an annual, premier event for our UCS community that promotes physical fitness through running and walking," said Nancy Smith, a Roberts Elementary teacher and coordinator of the event.

All community members are invited to participate in this event at at 9:30 a.m.  The event includes a 4K run and walk and then an 8K run for the more veteran runners.  There will also be a Trail Scavenger Hunt at the event for kids to participate in as they are walking the trail with a parent.

Everyone that comes out to walk/run and support the cause will be eligible to earn one of the top finisher awards in their age group.  But even if you aren’t the fastest runner on the course, no one will leave empty-handed because all participants will receive a custom event T-shirt.

Registration for the event is $15 before September 20 and $20 after that, including on the day of the event.  And because kids under 12 are free when walking with a parent, this is the perfect opportunity to get out with your kids and show them the importance of being active.

Check out the event website for more information or to register, and make sure to get out and take the trail less traveled!
