Annual Jingle Bell Run Expected to Attract More than 500 Racers to Shelby Sunday

Racers flock to Shelby Township Sunday to participate in 3rd Annual Jingle Bell Run.

Organizers of the Annual Jingle Bell 5k Run/Walk through Shelby Township are expecting record turnout for the 3rd annual charity race Sunday.

The race will start and end behind the Shelby Township Community Center, located at 51690 Van Dyke, and wind through Cherry Creek Golf Course and Mae Stecker Park. The start time is 9 a.m., with registration begining at 7 a.m.

Race organizer Michael Ward said more than 400 people have already signed up online for the race, and they are expecting another 100-150 to show up on race day. The cost is $20 per person prior to 12/16/2012, and $25 the day of the event. Each runner and walker will receive a T-shirt.  Before the event kicks off, racers can participate in a Jazzercise warmup routine, taught by Yvonne Lewis.

The money will be donated to the Macomb County Special Olympics, Penrickton Center, Cat Tail Acres, Shelby Township Lions Club, Shelby Township Veterans and 13 senior citizens who lost their home in a November fire in Shelby Township.  Last year, more than $5,500 was donated to charities.

"There is some real interest from the community to support the various charities through the run," said Ward.
