Baseball and Soccer Move On In State Tourney

Ike baseball and soccer capture district crowns

It’s playoff time.

It’s title time.

It’s the best time of the year for high school sports fans.

We’re going to start by taking a quick peek backwards to see just how the baseball and softball teams in your community fared this past week, then we’ll give our weekly shouts-out to those squads who turned in incredible performances in the postseason.

The Eagles soared to a district championship June 4 thanks to a 5-4 victory over Troy High in the title game. Utica was eliminated earlier in the week by Troy-Athens.

Ike squares off against Clarkston June 11 at Oxford High School in the regional round of the state tournament.

On the softball side, the Lady Eagles and Lady Chieftains squared off in the district semifinals June 4 at Utica with Utica High surviving, 3-2, and advancing to play Troy High in the final later that afternoon.

The Lady Colts were just a tad better, however, in the championship game, bouncing the Lady Chieftains from the postseason, 7-5.

Ike’s soccer team continued its incredible 2011 with a 4-0 win over Romeo High in the district final. The win pushes the squad into the regional round June 7 against Troy Athens at Athens.
