TROY — Finishing the Division 1 Competitive Cheer Regionals in seventh place, Eisenhower High School's varsity cheer team was just 35 points off the score needed to secure a place in the state finals.
Going into round three in third place, Eisenhower fell short of the scores posted by Southgate Anderso, Rochester, Sterling Heights Stevenson, Rochester Adams, Dakota and Stoney Creek high schools, the last of which saved its best for the final round, scoring 315 points to clinch the Div. 2-1 regional championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars finished with 775.64 to earn a return trip to the state finals in Grand Rapids next week, where Stoney Creek finished third in its division. Rochester High, who took a 0.10 lead into the final round, finished in second with a final score of 772.34.
