Shelby Township Fishing Derby

Shelby Parks and Recreation Hosts 26th Annual Fishing Derby

The Shelby Parks and Recreation Department wants kids to get hooked on fishing.  Anglers ages 15 and under are invited to Heritage Garden Lake to test their fishing skills on Saturday, June 9 from 8:00 to 11:00 am.  This very popular annual event is co-sponsored by Kirk, Huth, Lange & Badalamenti, PC and Detroit Area Steelheaders, Inc. along with support from Caribou Coffee.

The Fishing Derby is free for kids up to age 15 that are accompanied by a responsible adult.  Prizes are awarded to the largest fish in each of the four age groups.  A door-prize drawing will be held at 11:00 am, so even if children don’t catch a fish they may win a prize if present when the drawing is held.  Participants must bring their own equipment and bait.  This popular event usually brings over 200 participants, so plan to arrive by 8:00 am ready for some fishing fun.  Heritage garden Lake is located behind the Shelby Township Municipal Building at 52700 Van Dyke Avenue, just south of 24 Mile Road.
