Westview Orchards Celebrates 200 Years of Providing Food, Fun to Macomb County

Westview Orchards in Washington Township, a destination for many Macomb County residents, its bicentennial Saturday.

Westview Orchards in Washington Township has been providing fresh fruit, vegetables and activities to generations of Macomb County residents over their 200 years of farming.

To celebrate this anniversary Westview will host a Bicentennial Celebration Saturday featuring a number of events, proclamations and free samples.

“For 200 years, Westview Orchards has made Macomb their home and for that we are proud,” said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel, said in a release. “Agriculture in Macomb County has been, and continues to be, an important part of our local economy.”

Westview Orchards, 65075 Van Dyke Road, is planning to celebrate the anniversary from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. Saturday with free guided farm tours and wagon rides, educational stations, climb aboard farm equipment, pet farm animals and try food samples.

Westview Orchards traces its roots back 200 years when the farms was established by War of 1812 veteran Michael Bowerman. Over the two centuries, six generations of the family has run the farm.

The 188-acre farm currently produces fresh produce, and has a number family-friendly entertainment options.

There will also be special presentations and recognitions for the farms starting at 11 a.m. by Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-MI,  Hackel, Farm Bureau, Michigan Centennial Farm Association and state and local government officials.
