With the increasing popularity of Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, blogs, and about a dozen other social media outlets, some people have found a forum to throw out racist, sexist, victim blaming, rape culture infested comments without any backlash. It is very easy to make these comments hiding behind a user name to people you will never know, work with, or meet. For many years there have been misogynistic advertisements on TV, radio, and in magazines, but now even those are hitting social networks. This will not stop until people stand up and say THIS IS NOT OKAY!

It is time for people to get involved and call out this. We have to use social networks as an activism tool. The past days of activism (protests, picketing, petitioning) are slowly being replaced by the internet. Many people and organizations have utilized social networks for activism. Websites like Change.org allow people to make petitions and stand up for causes while sitting at their computer.
