Math Education gets personal in Utica Community Schools

New technology is adding up to an opportunity for many Utica Community
Schools teachers to build math education around their students.

Dreambox - a web-based program - is being introduced at five UCS schools this
year and will be used in every kindergarten classroom.

“Our school district has been nationally recognized for its innovative use of
technology, and DreamBox Learning will assist our teachers and parents in
providing an individualized learning environment for our students,” said
Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns.

“DreamBox Learning is an important tool in the restructuring of our
kindergarten programs to ensure every student has a strong foundation in
mathematics," she said. "We are also excited about the ability that our parents
have to monitor the progress of their child using the web-based programs being
implemented in Utica Community Schools through this partnership.”

A nationally recognized platform, Dreambox uses software that captures every
decision a student makes while working in the math program. The program
continues to present a skill to a student until he or she has has mastery of it. The
student then moves to the next skill based on their learning style and pace.

The program allows teachers to monitor student strengths and area of
improvement. In addition, parents of students using the program will get regular
updates on student progress through various platforms.
