Popular Velocity Jr. camps will return

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics camps will be offered over mid-winter and spring breaks

It's almost time to discover again.

It's also almost time for students to dig for dinosaurs, become be secret agents, learn what it takes to be the next George Lucas, rock and roll with robots and transition into junior chemists.

It's almost time for Velocity Jr.

Velocity Jr. is a popular series of academic camps designed to create excitement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Nearly 20 new camps will be available for students during mid-winter and spring breaks for all K through 9th grade students. The camps are held at Rose Kidd Elementary, 38397 Gladstone near Utica and 17 Mile roads.

Camps are age-appropriate and will include such things as: Lego robotics, Tiny Tunes piano, science extravaganza, secret agent labs, CSI Private Eye, Lights, Camera, Action: Star Wars, Alternative Energy, and Crazy Chemworks.

Velocity Jr. is open to all interested families and is a partnership of Utica Community Schools, the City of Sterling Heights and Macomb Community College.

The program is a complement to the economic development efforts housed at the Velocity Collaboration Center in Sterling Heights, a new center for business incubation and economic development, targeting defense, homeland security and advanced manufacturing.
