Prospective Idols Hit Right Note at Auditions

Annual Arts & Idols Scholarship Gala set for May 31

Nearly 10 area "Idols" are one step closer to the big time.

Ten made the cut from about 60 prospective idols who auditioned for a chance to peform at the fourth annual Arts & Idols Scholarship Gala in late May.

The idol candidates recently performed a capella before a panel of judges for the annual gala, sponsored by the UCS Foundation for Educational Excellence to raise scholarship funds for district students.

"Many talented singers auditioned for the Arts and Idols Gala.  The performance quality was very high making the judges job a difficult one," said UCS Music Department co-chair Susan Rosso. "In the end we could only choose ten finalists from the many talented singers who auditioned."

Rosso, UCS music teacher Charlene Sonnenberg, Mt. Clemens music teacher Michael Emshwiller and Foundation vice president Dan Wesner served as judges at the March 2 auditions.

Idol finalists will earn cash prizes and compete for a top award of $5,000 at the scholarship gala, scheduled for May 31st at the Palazzo Grande on Van Dyke, south of 25 Mile Road.

“The annual Arts & Idols Scholarship Gala is the entertainment event of the year," said UCS Foundation for Educational Excellence Roy Rose. "It is a great night out, features outstanding entertainment, and supports UCS graduates who are working hard to pursue their life goals in college."

The night will feature the Idols contest, a charity raffle event, and the opportunity to buy art work created by UCS students.
