Science launches fun at Flickinger Elementary

Students create launch pad and rockets in their school gym

Interest in science took flight recently for Flickinger Elementary fifth-grade students.

The students, led by teacher Kimberly Smith, created rockets and a launching pad in the school's gym.

The 90 fifth-grade students built the rocket and then prepared to fly it across the gym.

"When the class tried to fly the rocket, they would get so excited you would think it was real," said Smith, a science major.

Groups of four worked tediously to create the right nose out of clay and the proper wing span that would glide the rocket.
