Shelby teacher loses his lid

Close shave helps raise funds for American Cancer Society

A close shave at Shelby Junior High School has resulted in more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Five Shelby teachers volunteered to go under the razor if their students collected the most funds through a "Caps for Cancer" day at the school.

Students were able to make donations to wear a hat at school. In the end, history teacher Joe Syler had his head shaved when he received the most votes and donations from students.

"It's something I've never done before and thought it  would be fun for the school and to see how I would look," My Syler said. "It was for a great cause. My wife said as long as it grows back by  Christmas I'm good."
