Stevenson football tackles cancer

Varsity football team plans to raise funds for fight against cancer at regular season finale.

Stevenson High School's varsity football team is planning to score one against cancer at its final regular season game on Oct.19.

The Titans football team is hosting its first "Titans Tackle Cancer" at the Oct.  19th season finale against Warren Mott. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at  Runkel Field, 39701 Dodge Park Rd.

The event, sponsored in partnership with the school's Health Occupations Students of America, will feature football  players wearing pink jerseys with the name of a cancer survivor or someone who lost the battle to cancer.

Survivors or family members are being invited  to make a tunnel for the players to enter the field before the game. After the game, players will present the jersey to their sponsor on the field.

In addition, the school is selling lumninary bags during student lunch hours
that can be donated in the name of a loved one or survivor. During the game, the
bags will line the track around the field. T-shirts for $10 and bracelets for $3
are also being sold leading up to the game.

All funds raised will go to  two local community groups working with all type cancer, Angels of Hope and The  Believe Foundation.

Those interested in supporting this event should send  donations to Stevenson High School in care of varsity football coach Steven  Goralski. For more information, please contact wrzeppa@gmail.com.
