UAIS Quiz Bowl team is perfect - again
Utica Academy for International Studies team has earned back to back 15-0 seasons in jeopardy-like tournament.
The Utica Academy for International Studies Quiz Bowl team is once again perfect.
The team captured the MAC League title for the second straight year by achieving another 15-0 record.
"These young people work tremendously hard and put in countless hours practicing their craft," said team advisor, teacher William Dobbie. "You can be assured that the Utica Community Schools and the Utica Academy for International Studies are well represented by these students."

The Quiz Bowl is similar to a team jeopardy tournament. Students are asked questions that cover all subject areas, such as history, literature, science, art and music, geography and sports.
The team must be the first to answer the questions correctly among all students participating in the tournament.

For UAIS seniors, the back-to-back perfect seasons are even more meaningful as they helped create the team as freshmen four years ago.
"I like the fact that we were able to be successful as a younger team and also that we can pass on a legacy of success to future teams," said senior Gordon Smilnak.
The varsity team has a number of invitational tournaments yet this year, including the Michigan State University Honors College State Tournament in April and Nationals in Atlanta Memorial Day weekend. The UAIS team won the honors college tournament in 2011.
