UCS Academic Blitz helps parents plan for success

Utica Community Schools sponsors sixth annual Academic Blitz on Wednesday, January 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Henry Ford II High School, 11911 Clinton River Road in Sterling Heights.

Area parents can create a game plan for their child’s successful educational future at the Utica Community Schools Academic Blitz on Wednesday, January 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Henry Ford II High School, 11911 Clinton River Road in Sterling Heights.

While the Blitz is specifically targeted to parents of students in grades 6

through 10, the event is open to all parents interested in specific options
available in UCS and after graduation. The evening allows families to develop a
plan that takes advantage of the unique educational programs and services in
the district.

The evening will begin with guest speaker Dr. Gerard Voland, Provost and Vice Chancellor at the University of Michigan-Flint. Following the presentation, parents will be able to choose from more than 10 breakout sessions. Sessions include programs on such things as financial aid, advanced placement offerings, dual enrollment, advanced classes for sixth graders, special programs available to high school students, college opportunities for special education students and junior high school options in mathematics.

Informational booths will also be available during the night for parents
interested in meeting with counselors, local college officials, academic summer
school options, specialized high school programs in UCS, and college savings
plans.
