UCS hosts one of Michigan's largest student art shows April 16-20

More than 1600 pieces will be on display

One of Michigan's largest student art shows will take place April 16 through 20 when Utica Community Schools sponsors its annual K-12 exhibition at Ewell Elementary, 51041 Shelby Rd at 23 Mile road.

More than 1600 pieces of art will fill the school for a public show that showcases the artistic talents of UCS students.

Students will showcase both 2D and 3D pieces, which include drawings in pencil, pastel, ink, paintings in tempera, acrylic, and oil, traditional and digital photography, short films, PSA's, video game design, fibers ranging in fashion to weavings, relief and in the round sculptures and newly made ceramic pieces.

The show will open from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 16, with a reception being held in the school gym at 7 p.m. Shuttles for opening night are also available from Switzer and Wiley Elementary starting at 6 p.m.

Remaining hours for the show are Tuesday April 17 and Wednesday, April 18 from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.; Thursday April 19 from 5-8 p.m.; and Friday, April 20 from 5-8 p.m.

Works from all UCS schools will be represented at the show. In addition, instrumental and vocal students will be performing in the gym.

Also, visitors will have the opportunity to bid on select silent auction pieces as part of the UCS Foundation's Arts & Idols Gala celebration. The pieces will be awarded to the highest bidder at the Gala, scheduled for May 31 at the Palazzo Grande Banquet and Event Center. Tickets for the gala will also be available, with all funds raised going to support scholarships for UCS students.
