Wiley Girl Scouts make birthday wishes come true

Wiley Junior Troop #30523 hosts celebration for children at Grace Centers of Hope

A group of Wiley Elementary girl scouts recently made birthday wishes come true.

The girl scouts sponsored a birthday celebration for children at the Grace Center of Hope - complete with presents, cake, a bouncy slide, pony rides and even Sponge Bob.

"Our hearts are overfilled with great joy on this day. We are thankful to each and every one who was able to help, even in a small way," said Wiley Girls Scout troop member Haley Dupuis. "We are glad that we were able to give the kids even one day of happiness, to let them know that they are loved by so many."

The members of Junior Troop #30523 decided to put on the birthday party after visiting the Pontiac-based homeless shelter as part of the community service project.

At the center, they met with children who celebrate their birthday by picking out an unwrapped gift from a closet. There are no magicians. No clowns. No cake.

It was then that they decided to put on the April 27th celebration, which was held at Grace Gospel Fellowship Church in Pontiac.

The students planned the entire party and solicited donations for the celebration. The outpouring of support from the community resulted in an afternoon of fun for the birthday guests.

The fun included pony rides, beanie babies, bracelets and backpacks, food and cake, t-shirts, face painting, a clown and much more. Thanks to additional monetary donations, all of the children received birthday gifts that they had requested.

Their faces when they we were giving them the bag full of gifts that was just for them! And then when they found out that they were actually things they wanted, made it even better," said troop member BethAnne Mulvaine.

She said the afternoon made her feel “Happy. Filled with love. Proud of herself and my friends for doing this and making it great!”

Members of the troop are: Haley Dupuis, Kaitlyn Gailey, Heather Hayes, Lindsey Killian, Brooklyn McLaren, Elizabeth Mulvaine, Tori Ottenbacher, Sofia Stout and Dianna Wilson. Troop leaders are Holly Hayes and Julia Mulvaine.
