Eisenhower graduates pledge to meet their future with energy, commitment

As successful as the Eisenhower Class of 2013 is, graduates pledged to move to the next phase of their life with a commitment to pursue their dreams with even greater energy.

Nearly 700 Eisehower High School graduates earned their diplomas at ceremonies held Sunday at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Noting that the graduates started kindergarten in the the year 2000, superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said the new UCS alumni members have "well represented the promise of a new millennium.

“Whatever your future path, know that you have the power to improve life for humankind,” she told graduates. “This young century is yours, Class of 2013."

Board of Education Vice President Gene Klida reminded graduates that their status as the “millennials” has given them more opportunities to shape their future.

“I know your tomorrows will be extraordinary and fulfilling,” she said.

Student Mary Pyper, who also gave a commencement address, compared graduates to many of the nation's tecnology pioneers, such as Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg.

"As brilliant as they were, they could only dream of compiling, archiving and sharing information with the speed and readiness of the hard drives found in the minds of the students of Eisenhower’s class of 2013," she said.

Accomplishments of the Eisenhower High School Class of 2013 include:

• Thirty five valedictorians and salutatorians
• $2.8 million in scholarships
• National recognition for Eisenhower High School as one Newsweek's best high schools in the nation and the best school in Macomb County. The school was also named one of the most challenging high schools in the country by the Washington Post
• State and national honors in such areas as journalism, choir and art.
