National magazine features Ike dance team

Dance teams across the country are getting free advice from the nationally-recognized Eisenhower Dance team.

The team is being featured in the December edition of Dance Spirit magazine - alongside such prominent programs as the University of Minnesota, Arizona State University, and Pennsylvania State University.

The team is featured in a section called "Aye, Aye Captain" - ten ways to lead your dance team to success.

The article offers advice on how to be a successful dance team. Eisenhower Dance team captains past and present offered three pieces of advice to team members:

  • Set goals together as a team - "Create a chart with goals for technique, team bonding, community service, competition and anything else you want to include. It will help you understand what your teammates want to accomplish so you, as a captain, can push them to their fullest potential." - Sydney Oprita
  • Be conscious that you were chosen to be a model of your team - "As a leader, you must represent both your dance team and your school. Set a good example before, during and after practice. Be confident, draw from you past experience on your team and always stay positive." - Kendall Crudo
  • Make a personal connection with everyone on the team - "Each member brings something different, but they also have different needs. As a leader, it's your job to know how each girl is doing. Put together team-bonding activities at the beginning of the year so you can get to know one another. We have an ongoing team text message group so we can stay in touch during the day." - Lilly Smisci
The dance team, under the direction of Rachelle Anthony, has been honored nationally for the past five years as a National Dance Team Championship.
