Reading is the Main Event at Dresden Elementary

Reading is important - whether you are a first grader, a local business owner, a teacher, a principal or a superstar.

"I like to read because it takes you to magic places," WWE superstar Brodus Clay recently told a group of Dresden Elementary students at a "We Give Books" assembly.

Dresden Elementary was the only Michigan school to host the assembly, which featured Clay and fellow WWE superstar Hornswoggle reading the book Otis, by Loren Long, to first graders.

Sponsored by the Pearson Foundation, WWE and WalMart, the program also promoted a love of reading by providing every Dresden student with a copy of Otis, which will be used for the annual "Read for the Record" on October 3rd.

While the larger than life WWE guests were a focal point, it was really the importance of reading that took the main stage at the school.

"Reading is the gateway to everything else," Principal Jami Wood told the students.

And the students agreed.

"It helps you to learn a lot of stuff," said one student.
